Strengthen the spiritual program at Forest Lake Education Center by fulfilling the school mission. “Our school mission is to provide an Adventist education that nurtures a love of God and service to others.” - Rationale:

- Provide opportunities for students and staff to nurture a love of God.
- Provide opportunities for students and staff to serve others.
- Top Three Goals for 2021-2022:
- Ensure that all teachers—new and returning—are trained in Encounter Bible and are supported in using it.
- Ensure that the yearly school-wide spiritual theme is set, communicated, and used in: classrooms, chapels, weeks of prayer.
- Ensure that there are opportunities for local pastors, other educators, parents, grandparents, and church members to be a spiritual presence on the campus and in the classrooms including: Giving worship talks, Bible studies, and as classroom chaplains.
Goal #2
Educational Excellence | Strengthening Our Commitment to Excellence in Education
- Goal:
Strengthen academic excellence and innovation to actively engage our students in meaningful learning that challenges and motivates them to reach their potential. - Rationale:
Forest Lake Education Center (FLEC) provides an Adventist educational program within a sound learning environment that teaches young people to become motivated, independent thinkers with a love of learning and a commitment to Jesus Christ. Students come to FLEC with various learning styles, gifts, and interests, and it is important to provide the tools and support to allow them to succeed spiritually, academically, socially, and physically. We recognize that our students need to be challenged to become lifelong learners. A well-rounded educational experience will provide a balance between our exceptional core classes and co-curricular activities. A greater focus on innovative learning in the areas of STEM and Humanities will provide our students with the relevant knowledge and skills to contribute to their community and prepare them to live and lead in a global society. - Objectives:
- Expand pedagogical approaches focused on engaging students in learning across the curriculum
- Support teachers’ professional growth and provide numerous collaborative opportunities to ensure best teaching practices
- Implement widespread data analytics to drive academic program
- Top Three Goals for 2021-2022:
- Ensure that Standards-Referenced Education is presented to all classroom teachers and that training is provided for them to begin implementation of SRE at each teacher’s knowledge and comfort level.
- Ensure that the needed resources and materials are provided for teachers implementing SRE.
- Ensure that beginning in the fall of 2021 through the spring of 2024 that a complete comprehensive scope and sequence ofacademic skills and content in each department and related fields of study is begun, implemented, and then completed.
Goal # 3
Financial Resources | Ensuring Financial Stability for Today and Tomorrow
- Goal:
Build and preserve our financial resources for the benefit of current and future generations of students. - Rationale:
Providing adequate financial resources is the cornerstone to implementing the goals and objectives of Forest Lake Education Center’s Strategic Plan, securing the future for the next generation of students, and ensuring affordability for our families according to Biblical stewardship principles. FLEC needs to maintain a sustainable operation through balanced budgeting and fiscal integrity, while strengthening the quality of education. The school will balance the competing needs of financial aid, operating expenses, and affordable tuition. Building upon this, it is essential that FLEC increase its financial resources through a strengthened culture of philanthropy from all stakeholders. - Objectives:
- Maintain and continually update a five-year finance and capital plan based on optimum enrollment that supports the strategic and operating priorities of the school.
- Develop efficiencies to reduce operating costs to stay within the budget and maintain affordability of Adventist Education.
- Continue to increase capital reserves and contingency plans to withstand future challenges.
- Ensure that families in need have adequate funding for tuition and related school expenses.
- Top Three Goals for 2021-2022:
- Ensure that a variety of budgets are created, with various tuition scenarios, for the near future that range from 600 to 750 students enrolled to allow for: maximization of resources, an updated Finance and Capital plan, and to align the budget with annual priorities.
- Ensure that effective strategies are identified and implemented to reduce overhead costs, including evaluating Green Energy resources when possible.
- Ensure that there is consolidated, overall spending to reduce costs for families and school by engaging Advancement & Engagement to help fund departments, capital projects and other fine arts.
Goal # 4:
Technology | Enhancing Learning and Teaching Through Technology
- Goal:
Embrace technology to enhance student learning, enrich teacher development, and improve administrative operations. - Rationale:
Technology has now become an integral part of everyday life and learning. FLEC recognizes the need to proactively embrace technology as a fundamental aspect of learning and school management. To ensure our students are successful and competitive in the future, we need to provide them with relevant technology tools and meaningful skills that enhance their educational experience. Through a comprehensive technology plan, FLEC will improve the availability of relevant technologies and promote their use by our staff, parents, and students. - Objectives:
Annually review, update and implement a rolling three-year Technology Master Plan to focus on the use of current and emerging technologies throughout every educational and business function of the school. Ensure the school maintains a technology program that is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum and all aspects of school life. Prepare students to live and lead in a changing world by providing access to, and education in, current and emerging technologies & skills. Coordinate with Forest Lake Academy for IT support, curriculum, and choice of vendors for all areas of Information Technology. - Top Three Goals for 2021-2022:
- Ensure there is an active Technology Committee each year consisting of Board members, IT specialist, and school personnel that: regularly reviews and updates a Master Plan for the next two academic years; presents plan to administration and school board; implements the Technology Master Plan; assesses the quality and use of technology in all aspects for prioritization and improvement; and works with FLA on an overarching plan.
- Ensure that plans are developed for the roll-out and usage of new applications and technologies for instruction. (eg. iPads, laptops, software, applications), and that staff members receive a minimum of two annual trainings to improve collaboration and instruction.
- Ensure scope and sequence is developed and maintained for the technology curriculum that includes: grades 3-12; focuses on grade-appropriate internet and cloud-based learning; promotes internet etiquette and safety; trains teachers for incorporation of lesson planning, curriculum, and classroom management; and provides up-to-date equipment for teachers and staff and training to use equipment.

Advancement and Engagement | Engaging the Community to Advance the Work of God’s School
- Goal:
To advance and enhance the school and its brand through the engagement of current and possible stakeholders. - Rationale:
Forest Lake Education Center’s mission is rooted in excellence. Being continually focused on properly engaging the public as well as advancing and improving as an organization is essential to achieving and maintaining excellence. - Objectives:
Establish and manage positive and long-term partnerships with current and emerging stakeholders i.e: individuals,
businesses, churches, staff, etc. Grow capital and annual funds to further advance Programs, increase Scholarships, provide budget relief, and develop campus improvement projects. Utilize effective strategies to enhance communication and community engagement for improved awareness, marketing, public relations, and brand loyalty. - Top Three Goals for 2021-2022:
- Ensure that growth and improvement of the donor database is a top priority, including, cultivating monthly midlevel donors.
- Ensure that financing is explored to: Create new streams of external revenue; solidify funding for the four main annual fund categories, Athletics, The Arts, Academics, and Scholarships; create and operate a crowd funding campaign for a designated capital improvement project; and raise overall gross external revenue to over $250,000.
- Ensure that the entire community is engaged by: maintaining continued high attendance to engagement events; increase social media followers and website views to enhance communications and brand loyalty; and increase the number of regular volunteers and total hours donated.
GOAL #6
Facilities | Building, Maintaining, and Growing the Assets God has Provided
- Goal:
Enhance and develop the school’s grounds and facilities to provide a safe, attractive, and functional learning environment. - Rationale:
A school is only partially defined by its facilities, but facilities can enhance teaching and learning. FLEC will continue to create a safe and functional environment for learning and teaching to accommodate our growing school community. FLEC’s infrastructure will have the necessary resources in place to support the mission, vision, and objectives of the school. As the school renews and expands its campus, we foresee an opportunity to develop a comprehensive vision for our campus master plan to guide the expansion and development of our renewed facilities and grounds, guided by the initiatives identified in our Strategic Plan. - Objectives:
Maintain a phased campus master plan for the enhancement of current and future facilities and grounds that benefits all students. Work with development, school administration, Safety & Health Committee, and FLEC school board to prioritize campus needs and methods of funding. Explore methods to save operational and capital funds by reducing facilities costs. Bring a variety of individuals and groups for regular walk throughs to look for immediate ways to enhance the FLEC campus. - Top Three 2021-2022 Goals:
- Ensure that a master- facilities plan is created in collaboration with FLA to explore ways to maximize resources for a shared campus, including ways to save funds by sharing resources.
- Ensure that ways are explored to lower electric bills through light/AC management and through alternative green power.
- Ensure that there are four walk throughs a year with maintenance team, administration, and facilities committee. Two a year with teachers and group of parents. Two a year with any parents and families. This allows a for a fresh set of eyes on school needs.

Safety and Health | Creating a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors
- Goal:
Safety: Ensure the school has created a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Health: Ensure the school facilitates and enhances competent health practices in the school setting. - Rationale:
Safety and health have become an integral part of every school in recent years. FLEC recognizes the need to proactively develop plans that ensure our students, staff, and visitors are safe while on school campus. To ensure our students are safe and healthy while at school, we need to provide them the proper protocols, safety drills, and health professional staff to ensure they can thrive in their educational experience. - Objectives:
Safety:- Ensure the school is safe and secure during school hours and after school activities.
- Ensure the school has proper protocols and safety codes in place for school hours and after school activities.
Health:
- Coordinate with local health care professionals to develop programs and screenings for FLEC students.
- Commit to a safe and confidential environment for student’s health care needs.
- Top Three 2021-2022 Goals:
- Ensure that there is camera cover for the full exterior of all buildings and exterior gates, including exploring the value of cameras being installed in hallways and common areas. i.e gym lobby, library, POD hallways.
- Ensure that exterior fencing around playground is extended and slab enclosed for after-care.
- Ensure improvement to all safety and health protocols will be reviewed and improved as needed.
GOAL #8
Co-Curricular | Presenting Opportunities for Students to Shine in and out of the Classroom
- Goal:
To strengthen the co-curricular program at Forest Lake Education Center by fulfilling the school mission: “Our school mission is to provide an Adventist education that nurtures a love of God and service to others.” - Rationale:
Forest Lake Education Center strives to offering opportunities for students to find their passion. This can be accomplished by helping students to “shine” outside of the classroom. Through co-curricular activities, students can nurture a love of God and serve others. - Objectives:
Provide FLEC students opportunities to develop a love and a talent for music and using that talent to nurture a love of God and service to others. Provide FLEC students opportunities to develop STEAM skills that will enhance academic excellence and cooperation with others. Provide FLEC students opportunities to grow in strength and character through sports. Work towards opportunities to have extracurricular activities work together seamlessly. - Top Three 2021-2022 Goals:
- Ensure that for co-curricular activities that the following are explored: spaces to accommodate large musical groups; upgrades to the soccer field; welcoming procedures to home sporting events; potential for expanded sports (swimming and tennis); sportsmanship workshops; capping number of students in musical groups before additional instructors are needed; finding time for beginner and advanced concert bands; setting a minimum number of games for athletic teams; offering parent training for athletics and innovation; and presenting opportunities for fundraising for all activities.
- Ensure that opportunities are explored to: partner with local organizations to serve and share our talents (nursing homes, hospitals); provide off campus opportunities for students to interact and learn from professional musical organizations; and partner with local musicians to hold workshops on campus.
